Scholarships & Educational Awards

The mission of the Colonial Dames is to stimulate a spirit of true patriotism and to foster a knowledge of American history.

Indiana Dames contribute to the NSCDA District History Scholarship and American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program in addition to awarding an annual scholarship to a local college student studying American history.

American Indian Medical Scholarship

Officially adopted by the NSCDA as a national project in the 1930s, the American Indian Medical Scholarship (AIMS) gives students of American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hawaiian Native descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing, healthcare, and health education. The scholarship is specifically designed to assist students who, following graduation, plan to work on reservations or in hospitals that serve Native populations with the goal of improving healthcare within those communities.

Goal: to grant an annual scholarship each semester to a student in academic good standing. The scholarship money is restricted to tuition and specific academic expenses.

American Heritage Award

In celebration of the NSCDA’s patriotic ideals, the American Heritage Awards recognize organizations, groups, or students that show timeless dedication to patriotism and American heritage. Each year, four corporate societies from different regions of the country, known as that year’s “Spotlight Societies,” select the recipient or recipients of the award.

The recipients must use the award to promote knowledge of patriotism and American heritage through community work, programs, projects, or courses of study.

The Indiana Society has over the years made major yearly contributions to the scholarship and has been in contact with some of the recipients and followed their progress.
